About Check Before Trust
Check Before Trust is a free, community-powered platform built to help people check suspicious websites, phone numbers, email addresses, social media accounts, companies, online stores, recruiters, and job offers before they lose money or personal information to a scam.
What We Do
Anyone can search our database for free to see whether a website, number, or company has been reported before, and read what other members of the community experienced. If something isn't in our database yet, we still show a baseline Trust Score rather than leaving you with no information at all — clearly labeled so it's never confused with a verified result.
Anyone can also submit a report, with or without creating an account. Every report is reviewed by our moderation team before it appears publicly. We never label something a confirmed scam based on a single anonymous report — that status is reserved for cases our moderators have actively reviewed and verified.
Why We Built This
Online scams evolve constantly — fake online stores, phishing emails, romance scams, and fraudulent job offers cost people real money and real trust every day. Existing scam databases are useful but scattered. We wanted one place where anyone could check a website, a phone number, or a job offer in seconds, and contribute what they learned back to the community.
Our Approach to Accuracy
- Every entity is deduplicated and normalized so reports about the same website or number are grouped together, not scattered across near-duplicate entries.
- Risk and Trust Scores are calculated from an algorithm that weighs report volume, evidence, community confirmations, and moderator review — not from any single data point.
- "Verified" is a status our moderation team applies deliberately after review. It is never automatic.
- Anyone can dispute a report they believe is incorrect, and our moderators review disputes.
